At Sparkle, we follow nine Principles of Smile Design when planning your smile, outlined below, which ensure your smile fits with your other facial features.

Midline

The most attractive smiles all possess one feature, symmetry. The illusion of symmetry is created by making sure your front two teeth and other teeth close to the midline are evenly balanced.

Horizontal Alignment

To produce a beautiful smile, your smile line should be aligned so that it’s parallel to the horizontal.

Smile Line

The smile line is one of the most important factors contributing to a beautiful smile. Your smile is designed so that the biting edges of your teeth gently follow the curve of your lower lip. A curved smile line makes you and your smile look younger.

Gum Line

The smile line is one of the most important factors contributing to a beautiful smile. Your smile is designed so that the biting edges of your teeth gently follow the curve of your lower lip. A curved smile line makes you and your smile look younger.

Smile Width

With an ideal smile, all your teeth can be seen in progression. In a narrow smile your back teeth are often in shadow. A fuller smile can be created to give a more attractive look.

Embrasures

Embrasures are the natural triangular spaces between the tips of your teeth. We artistically create embrasures to ensure a natural looking smile, with embrasure space being smallest at the front and gradually getting larger at the back.

Golden Proportions

The principles of golden proportion suggest that there is an ideal mathematic ratio 1:6 :1 :0.6 which creates harmony and balance between widths of the front six teeth (centrals, laterals and canines) when viewed from the front.

Tooth Proportion

The most attractive smiles are governed by an ideal proportion for each individual tooth. For example, the ideal width to height ratio for the front two teeth is normally 0.7 : 1.

Tooth Shade

To produce a beautiful smile, your smile line should be aligned so that it’s parallel to the horizontal.

Horizontal Alignment

When designing your new smile, we can change the shade of your teeth with the use of a variety of colours and translucency, to give you a natural look.
