First Woman to become an Accredited Member of BACD!

Three years of hard work and dedication brought Dr Sunita Verma, founder of Sparkle Dental Boutique, Brentford to a pinnacle of professional achievement recently when her attainment of accreditation was announced by the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD).

Sunita’s accreditation is historic in that she is the first and only female dentist in England to have been honoured by the BACD and one of only 12 dentists in the UK, to have achieved the accreditation.

The BACD is committed to promoting the practice of quality cosmetic dentistry, and has recently introduced credentials to allow its members to demonstrate that they have reached an agreed level of ability. The process has been designed to allow dentists to demonstrate that they have the ability to diagnose, plan and execute cosmetic treatment of the highest standard, and that this can be done safely, ethically and competently.

Regarding the stringent accreditation requirements, Sunita observed, “The accreditation process is necessarily rigorous and demanding.  I was required to submit case studies of my dental work in each of five restoration and tooth replacement categories.  The demand for detailed case studies is designed to showcase a candidate’s ability to diagnose, plan treatment, and perform procedures to the highest standards of competency. Any dentist who attains this standard has perfected their knowledge, skills, and ability to perform cosmetic treatments to the highest level.”

The BACD Accreditation plaque joins Sunita’s impressive array of awards, including Best Practice London 2007/8 and 2008/9, 2009 Professional of the Year, and 2010 Best Patient Smile and many others – attesting to Sunita’s drive for excellence.

Ask Sunita a Question…

“I got a new bridge two months ago at another practice. Two weeks after the bridge was fitted, I cleaned under the bridge using superfloss. There was a horrible smell.  I have been cleaning the area three times a day, but it remains the same. What can I do?”

Dr Sunita Verma in Brentford says:

Firstly, I think it would be a good idea to have your bridge checked to ensure that the bridge is fitting well. When a bridge is first fitted, you need to get into a good oral hygiene routine straight away.

At Sparkle Dental Boutique, I routinely encourage my patients to see our hygienist, particularly if they have had restorations fitted including a bridge, crown or porcelain veneers.

After eating and before you go to bed, you need to brush your teeth and gums with a soft brush, especially where the bridge meets the gum line (margin). At the margin, harmful bacteria can gather to cause tooth decay and gum disease. You also need to floss at least once a day using superfloss. This will help to remove plaque under and around these areas to maintain good oral hygiene. With a bridge you must clean under as well as around the bridge to prevent food debris and plaque gathering and the area becoming infected.

My advice would be for you to see a dentist so that they can check your bridge and also check whether you have an infection under the bridge. I would also advise you to see a hygienist for professional cleaning so that any build up around your bridge and teeth can be removed. The hygienist can also show you you how to look after your bridge and maintain good oral health.

It feels indulgent, but its actually prudent

Getting a perfect smile is never a frivolous purchase, but perhaps in the current climate, its one you think more about.

You’ll want to hang on to your own teeth as long as possible. Have a smile which gives you a confident, youthful appearance and have healthy teeth and gums.  And, in an ideal world, you’ll want to pay a bit less too. A new smile from £100 a month* say. Does such an option exist? Well, at Sparkle Dental Boutique, Brentford it certainly does.

A new smile could be yours in some cases within a space of weeks using porcelain veneers. Braces may take longer but the results of both procedures are simply stunning…and from only £100 a month* its less than a cup of coffee each day!

Sunita Verma, Principal Dentist from Sparkle Dental Boutique says,”Those who invest a little in preventive dental care are prudent. It’s better to regularly spend a modest amount to maintain healthy teeth, than to pay more later for extensive dental treatment. As our cars need yearly MOT’s, so do our mouths. The regular investment of seeing a dentist once a year and hygienist perhaps twice a year really is small and will yield healthy and beautiful teeth for life.”
